2018/19 IRN-BRU Cup

The Scottish League Challenge Cup

The Scottish Challenge Cup 2017/18

Apart from the decision to invite two teams from the English League to take part in this year's competition, a number of other changes were made to the format.

A Preliminary Round was drawn, to determine which of the 3rd and 4th placed clubs in the Highland and Lowland Leagues would take the third spots open to those leagues.

The twelve "Colts" teams (Under-21s) from the Scottish Premiership were entered into the First Round draw.

And the six invited foreign teams this season are as follows:

Northern Ireland Football League Crusaders & Coleraine
Welsh Premier League The New Saints & Connahs Quay Nomads
League of Ireland Premier Division Bohemians & Sligo Rovers*
English National League Sutton United & Boreham Wood

* Originally Bray Wanderers, invitation withdrawn by FAI due to financial irregularities; St Patricks Athletic declined to participate

First Round ties level after 90 minutes were decided by penalties (no Extra Time).

For the Second Round (drawn on 16 Aug), a pre-draw determined which country was allocated to which pot to avoid two cross-border teams from the same country playing each other in that round.
