Bray made their exit from the Enda McGuill Cup when UCD came back from a one-goal deficit in a spirited second half.

Despite an early scare, the Seagulls had taken the lead when Gareth McDonagh struck twenty minutes in. Chasing down a back-pass, when College keeper Karl Skinner missed his kick, McDonagh pounced and casually stroked the ball into the empty net.

McDonagh might have opened the scoring after 11 minutes but team-mate Paddy Obijuru, bursting forward, missed a fine chance to slip McDonagh in and when Danny Blackbyrne eventually found him, he had strayed offside.

UCD's Troy Carey chipped a pass across the box to Brendan Martin, who met it on the volley but it flew over.

And McDonagh was unlucky not to net five minutes before he did, when Oscar Brennan’s pass, intended for Blackbyrne, was picked up by Sean Noble who instantly slid a lovely ball into McDonagh’s path. The frontman let it run across his body, and then let fly, the ball beating Skinner and rolling across the face of goal and wide, with Obijuru also unable to finish it off.

Having gone a goal down, UCD went back on the attack and Greg Sloggett managed to bend a free kick around the wall and force Gavin Sheridan to push it out of harm’s way. Gareth Coughlan’s follow-up was blocked behind by a Bray defender.

Jason Ryan’s routine pass was drastically held up on the sanded surface and left Coughlan with a clear path to goal. He unleashed a low drive which seemed destined for the bottom corner before shaving the outside of the post.

Eoin Rossi came close to doubling Wanderers’ lead when he met Obijuru’s right-wing corner but his header failed to find the far corner.

Obijuru tore into the UCD half on a Bray counter, with Noble left and McDonagh right. He went right but McDonagh’s drive whistled past the far post.

UCD were denied an equaliser when Bray captain Paul Murphy blocked Carey’s effort on the line.

Sheridan had another nervy moment when he misjudged Carey’s 39th minute corner. But Dan Tobin’s effort finished the wrong side of his crossbar.

Though Rossi headed just wide from Noble's cross within a minute of the restart, Sheridan had to produce a first-class save to deny the visitors within the following sixty seconds by tipping over the bar.

A second goal-line clearance for Bray came courtesy of Thomas Walsh but with Bray failing to perform after the restart, the Students needed only a spot of luck to make a breakthrough.

Greg Sloggett muscled his way into the penalty area where his run was illegally ended by Darragh Noone. Sloggett took the spot kick himself and tucked it into the bottom corner.

Coughlan fired another home less than a quarter of an hour later when the visitors had two men unmarked for a cross.

Two close efforts by McDonagh in the final ten minutes failed to level matters, and it is the Students who march into the Semi-Finals.
