Going into this match with three of your normal first choice eleven suspended was not the ideal setup for a game against the League leaders, who put six past them without reply the last time they met.

But even after going behind early in the first half to a soft enough penalty, well taken by David Hurley, the Seagulls responded well.

They concentrated on possession, but were finding it difficult to break through a stubborn Galway defence.

The pattern resumed in the second half, but in their turn the home side were awarded a penalty fairly early on, and Chris Lyons's goal gave them heart.

Once more their possession play was the dominant factor, and with barely a quarter of an hour to go, Brendan Clarke produced a fine save to deny Conor Crowley. The Galway keeper had likewise tipped away a Darren Craven free in first half injury time.

Both sides were living dangerously in the final minutes, and Max Murphy went very close to a winner deep in time added.
