Those of a superstitious disposition might have been forgiven for reading portents into Stephen McGuinness's dramatic save of a fourth minute penalty tonight, and the Seagulls almost immediately capitalised on it.

Following a Dean Zambra free played short to Jack Hudson and reaching him via captain Hugh Douglas, Ben Feeney fired low past the advacning Conor Kearns.

And it got better. Just short of the half hour, Colin Kelly got between defenders to shoot cleanly to the Gaway net.

But with three half-time substitutions, galway showed considerably more purpose during the second half, though it wasn't until Mikie Rowe and Ronan Manning came on with twenty minutes to go that their play became incisive.

Nevertheless, they were still failing to breach the Bray defence, until - down to ten men - Bray conceded another spot-kick that the home side managed to score a consolation goal in time added.
