Perhaps the most obvious sign of a change in the Seagulls' fortunes was the appearance on their shirts of a sponsor - O'Driscoll O'Neil insurance - for the first time this season.

In truth, little separated the teams for the first half hour, even if the visitors left big holes on the wings that Conan Byrne and Simon Madden on the right, in particular, were keen to exploit.

And it was from a ball into that hole that Ryan Brennan opened the scoring after Byrne's shot was blocked into his path.

It took almost another half hour for the Saints to improve their position, Byrne again the provider, crossing for Ian Turner to head home.

When the influential Gary McCabe left the fray consequent on a second caution, it was perhaps inevitable that the home side would press their advantage, former Seagull Graham Kelly capitalising on a Byrne cross to touch the ball home.
