Netting against the 'Gulls
Bray Wanderers' dramatic recovery at Terryland Park last April in coming from two goals down with minutes remaining stretched the club’s unbeaten run against Galway United to six games. In the last six meetings Wanderers have scored at least twice in each match. Bray Wanderers and Galway United have never played out a scoreless draw in 21 meetings in all competitions to date. Wanderers’ recovery in that match to earn a draw was a repeat of their visit to Terryland Park in November 2000 when Eddie Gormley came off the substitutes' bench at half-time to score twice to earn the visitors a share of the points. Galway’s Alan Murphy went one better in the Premier Division meeting at Terryland Park on 10 March 2002 when he came off the bench at half-time and scored a hat-trick. Unfortunalty from Alan’s point of view he ended up on the losing side that afternoon as Wanderers ran out 5-3 winners. Alan became only the second player ever to score a hat-trick against Bray Wanderers in a senior match and end up on the losing side. Bohemians winger Paul McGee had previously scored three times against Bray at the Carlisle Grounds on 20th August 1987 in a Leinster Senior Cup match which Wanderers won 4-3. Alan, who scored both of Galway’s goals in the earlier meeting this season to bring his tally to five goals against Bray, has now moved into joint 12th position in the all time scoring chart against Bray Wanderers since 1985. Former Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers striker Derek Swan is the leading marksman against Wanderers with 14 goals scored during his career.
