Gregg and Tresson try to stem the flow

A packed Carlisle saw the Yellow Submarine ease five past their hosts, but without ever making the Seagulls look ordinary.

In fact, at times the hosts looked every bit the equal of their visitors, and had several threatening attacks at their visitors' net.

But even at pre-season level, Villareal looked sharp and precise in their passing, and clinical in their finishing.

They fielded two separate teams, making a complete substitution at half time and no other changes.

Bray held their visitors scoreless for the first half hour of the match, yielding only in the 33rd minute when Marcos Senna fed Cani, who blustered by two defenders before shooting home.

Eight minutes later it was Hernan Perez who fed the striker, giving him a perfect pass to head home from close range.

And it took the new Eleven to further increase the visitors' score as the hour approached, a cross from Jefferson Montero releasing Giuseppe Rossi, who rounded Matt Gregg – returning to the Carlisle – after the keeper had blocked his first attempt, to tap home just across the unguarded line.

Rossi turned feeder for the Spanish side's fourth, giving David Fuster an easy task to side-foot past the stranded Bray goalie.

And the final goal came from a Montero cross that posed little difficulty for Mateo Musacchio to poke home.

Marco Ruben had given notice of the visitors' intentions as early as the first minute, shooting over just after the offside whistle sounded.

They mounted a concerted attack in the early stages, forcing Brian Kane into action in rapid succession at the feet of Ruben and Cani, and requiring Adam Mitchell and Derek Prendergast to combine to deny Perez when the Bray keeper was overcommitted.

But Bray were not entirely on the defence: following a low clearance by Mitchell, John Mulroy managed a good cross for Jake Kelly, who couldn't keep his shot on target, and a low free from 25m was easily taken by Juan Carlos in the Villareal goal.

Shane O'Neill shot across the face of the goal when clear 23 minutes in, but Mulroy failed to hold possession for a second attempt, and at the other end, Kane blocked well from a good close-range Ruben shot from the left.

Minutes later, the visitors should have had a corner when a 30m effort by skipper Marcos Senna was clearly headed out off the defence, but a goal-kick was given.

The opening score followed soon after, when a Villareal free eventually reached Senna, who found Cani with a through ball, the latter working his way past two Bray players before steering the ball home from 20m.

Bray had a final chance in the first period with two minutes to go, but Kelly's free from 22m on the right led only to a free out after an unlucky hand-ball by Gary Dempsey.

The home side introduced Matt Gregg at half time, leaving further substitutions for the hour mark and later, and the Englishman was straight into the fray, an early flurry of attacks seeing him, in the same way as his predecessor, diving to the feet of both Santiago Cazorla and Castellani in the opening minutes.

But this time, Bray struck back, Kelly crossing for O'Neill, who shot low and just wide of Diego Lopez's posts, and Graham Kelly just failing to keep his effort down after another Kelly cross following good work in the left hand corner.

On 55 minutes, it took a fine theft by Ángel to prevent Mulroy breaking through, but two minutes later the visitors struck again through their Italian striker.

A batch of Bray substitutions slowed things down a little as the new players found their feet, but the next significant Villareal attack hit home, with Fuster the scorer.

Soon after that, Rossi had an effort off the post, and followed up despite the efforts of Mitchell, though Gregg managed to take just before the offside flag went up.

With a quarter of an hour remaining, a Dane Massey free earned a corner off the wall, but Dempsey was unable to make it count.

After a long buildup, Castellani attempted another strike, but Gregg's foot put it out for a corner to no avail, but Montero's pin-point cross allowed defender Musacchio to get his name on the scoresheet without too much effort.

A minute later from a Massey corner, Bray missed out on another after Ángel headed out.

Rossi tried to put icing on the cake with a lob, but Gregg first batted the ball high and then claimed the return to foil the attempt.

And the game ended as it began, with the Bray keeper taking at the feet of Montero just before the whistle.
